JAMES SPENCER
James L. “Jim” Spencer, 83, of Mexico, died April 2, 2023, at University Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services were held April 7, 2023, at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.
Jim was born on March 30, 1940, in Payson, Illinois. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1958. He was the son of William Ross and Ina Maye (Hull) Spencer. On December 26, 1959, in La Grange, Missouri, he married Darlene M. Prisner who survives.
Jim graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.
Jim was a District Sales Manager for AGCO-Allis Chalmers, where he retired after 45 years of selling farm equipment and serving customers. Jim also assisted Darlene in her custom drapery business.
Jim was a founding elder and co-builder of Southside Community Church, and later enjoyed worshiping at Rush Hill Community Church. He taught Sunday School and hosted Bible studies at his home. Jim’s other hobbies included gardening, restoring the family home, hosting family dinners and hymn singalongs, and helping others.
In addition to his wife Darlene, survivors include one son, Heath (Heather) Spencer, of St. Charles; one daughter, Sloane (Jeff) Rogers, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Kyle Rogers, Laurel Rogers, and Marcus Spencer.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark R. Spencer; and one daughter, Nicole Marie Spencer Santrizos.
Memorials may be given to the Rush Hill Community Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
