Two Generations Perform Flag Ceremony

Two generations performed the flag folding ceremony at the burial of John M. Shoemaker in the Maywood Cemetery on March 9, 2024.  John was a veteran of the United States Army, and his sons, Colonel Jeffrey Shoemaker, United States. Army (retired), and Senior Chief Jason Shoemaker, United States Navy (Retired), and his grandson, Cadet Jess Toler (J.T.) Shoemaker, Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of North Georgia, folded the flag following the graveside service.  Colonel Shoemaker then presented the flag to his mother, Alice Faye (Jones) Shoemaker, who is the daughter of the late J.W. and Beulah Jones of Maywood.  John and Alice had most recently lived in Douglasville, Georgia.  Following the ceremony, friends and family attended a dinner at South Union Baptist Church in Maywood.
