Elza Dale Hustead, 76, of Knox County, Mo., died March 2, 2025, at Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Mo. He was born on October 31, 1948, in Colony, Mo., the son of Burley Randolph and Emma Lillian Lanz Hustead.
Elza graduated from Knox County High School in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, including a tour in Vietnam. He worked in construction for many years and enjoyed gathering with family and friends for card parties. He treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved calling Colony home and embraced the simple pleasures of rural life, cherishing memories and stories from the past. Elza was known for his warm smile, sense of humor, and the joy he found in visiting with friends and neighbors. His laughter was unmistakable and will never be forgotten.
Elza is survived by his sons, Travis Hustead and wife Amy of Ewing, Mo., and Ethan Hustead of Colony, Mo.; two granddaughters, Macy and Molly Hustead of Ewing, Mo.; a special niece, Amy Parrish of LaBelle, Mo.; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Carmen Kessler, Wilda Marie Hudson, Anna Mae Hudson, Bonnie Forsythe, Sandy Walker, and Shirley Jean Wheeler; and five brothers, Vernon, Orville, Larry, Earl Lee, and Harry Hustead.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, beginning at 4 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Mo.
Burial at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Colony, Mo.
Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Nursing Home or Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 408 East Morgan St., Edina, MO 63537.
