MILDRED SUE LAIR

Mrs. Mildred Sue Lair, 89, of Durham, Mo., died September 4, 2022 at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 20, 1933 in Meyer, Ill., a daughter of Wade and Katie Franklin Griggs Shanks. She married Herbert (Jack) Lair on March 14, 1955 in Palmyra, Mo. He passed away on December 17, 2009.

Mildred loved spending time with family and hosting family dinners especially on Sunday. She had collected over 500 Longaberger baskets over the past 20 years. Mildred enjoyed growing flowers, collecting cookbooks, watching birds and drinking diet Pepsi. Her favorite places to eat were Texas Roadhouse, Gem City Pizza, Sprouts Restaurant and going to Casey’s in LaGrange with Jack ordering pizza with the grand kids and eating in “Old Ruby” at the Riverfront. She would often would say “I’ve had better” after eating something special. She was of the Christian Faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois (Lindsey) Griffin of Durham; one son, Wade (Karen) Lair of Durham; grandchildren, Diana (Adam) Mast of Durham, Christy (Jason) Waters of Columbia, Mo., Jessica (Dan) Wilson of Edina, Mo., Heather (Mat) Mikesell of Noblesville, IN and Melissa (Tyson) Ausmus of Edina; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jim (Trudy) Shanks of LaGrange; two sisters, Wanda McReynolds of Durham and Mary McDonald of Ewing and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Patsy Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Richard Ulrich officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons: Jason Waters, Adam Mast, Dan Wilson, Tyson Ausmus, Mat Mikesell, Shaun Bailey, Nathan Bailey and Hayden Wilson. Music: “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes”

Burial will be in Durham Cemetery, Durham, Mo.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
